Faith is one of those enigmatic concepts that only those whose had theirs tested can truly understand it. I had faith in “Suga” Rashad Evans (still do of course). It was tough watching him fight someone like Jones. It must’ve been pretty frustrating for Rashad during that fight. 84 inch wingspan. Long legs. Fists for elbows. Greg Jackson in the other corner. It was almost like watching David vs. Goliath. Yet at the same time, it was hard to see it that way given their story. And I’m sure Rashad would’ve be pissed off if anyone were to try and connect the two. Still, everyone including Rashad knew he was the underdog who would be fighting the uphill battle. That’s precisely why I rooted for him. After the year Rashad had in 2011, he was more than just a underdog, he was a pitbull cornered, not willing to go down without some “Bones”. That’s the type of character I saw in Rashad this year, and in this fight. Even when he was exhausted, I knew he was still game. Others will probably disagree with me on this one, but Jones saw it too—whether out of respect or just caution.
I think anyone would’ve wilted at the obstacles Rashad experienced the past year. But he stayed strong, stayed positive, and didn’t dwell on the past. His ability to keep moving forward, his desire to be the best, that’s his Suga.
Had a dream within a dream a couple weeks back while studying for my Statistics Class.
Starts with me in the middle of an internship/job interview with none other than Wilmington Pharmatech. I’m walking around the lab with Shin and Helen, and this time, they’re not telling me what I’ll be mopping up. Apparently, they need someone with a good statistics (bio-stats perhaps??) background, and I can’t help but look a bit smug as I walk by Dr. Lei. We stop by some machine, and Shin asks me to recite the “Wikanayo” distribution…and I am at a loss of words. I’ve never heard of it before. Shin shrugs off the response, and tells me that this machine uses the distribution for the user’s convenience. I can tell though that this interview has turned south…and that’s when I realize that this is all a dream. Of course, the thought that starts running through my head is…why Wilmington Pharmatech?
I wake up—or I think I do, and I’m in Dr. Weiner’s office (my stats professor). I ask him if he’s ever heard of the “Wikanayo” distribution. He gives me a smile and enthusiastically describes that the distribution’s data sample is all based on its mean, μ. If you were to order a particular data sample such that the terms are μ, μ^2, μ^3, etc., then the data sample will have a “Wikinayo” distribution. I get a big AHA moment, and realize that I had seen such a distribution. Then I realize that you can’t have a sample that depends on its mean…..that’s just retarded…I wake up. Dream End.
I think nerd is an understatement at this point.
